Native American Tribe spends many millions on lawyers only to dismiss its own case

An Oklahoma Native American Tribe sued its former lawyer and law firm for malpractice. The litigation spanned trial and appellate courts, both federal and state, over five years and at a cost to the Plaintiff of nearly $6 million.

When its case deteriorated, the Tribe's teams of lawyers resorted to aggressive measures including an attempt at prejudgment asset attachment and strategic filing of bar complaints against counsel.

As is often our experience, well-reasoned legal arguments presented professionally carried the day here. Summary judgments by the trial court were upheld on appeal and left the plaintiff with no rational recourse other than to dismiss its remaining claims.

Swarms of lawyers employing vexatious tactics can seem intimidating. Better is sound strategy and a steady hand. This case is just one example of our seasoned professionals-- in this instance, Elizabeth Sharrock and Joe Stall-- having the patience and presence of mind to parry unconventional lawyering and keep the ultimate goal in mind.
