John Tucker presented at the Leadership Academy of the Oklahoma Bar Association on January 9, 2014. John spoke to the group about challenges facing Oklahoma’s process for selecting and maintaining an independent judiciary. The Leadership Academy is aimed at developing the future leaders of the OBA by giving Oklahoma attorneys training in the core principles of effective leadership and how to communicate, motivate and succeed in their legal careers and also as community leaders. The Academy is limited to 25 participants annually. John Tucker serves as one of the members of Oklahoma’s Judicial Nominating Commission. This Commission nominates candidates for appointment by the Governor to fill vacancies on the Supreme Court, the Court of Criminal Appeals, the Court of Appeals, District and Associate District Judgeships, and the Workers’ Compensation Court. The Commission has jurisdiction to determine whether the qualifications of nominees to hold judicial office have been met.
